Throwing away food wrappers with Islamic names printed on them

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: There’s a food company named Ismail industries in my country. Their product wrappers and boxes have the name written on them. When people throw it away, won’t they be sinning because it’s the name of a Prophet?

If it’s a sin, how do I advise people not to throw them away because I feel people will be making fun of me?

Bismillaah

A: It is important that names written in Arabic must be respected.

Ask them to at least tear it into pieces and then throw it away.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: What if they are lying on the ground and someone doesn’t pick them up because people will look at them (especially if a woman picks it up then the men will stare at her in the street, for example), will one be sinning and doing kufr?

Bismillaah

A: No.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
