Eating with two fingers

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: In Ithaaf al-Saadah al-Mutaqeen several ahadith are mentioned indicating to the undesirability of eating with two fingers (some state that it is because Shaytan does so). What is the fiqh ruling of eating with two fingers? (Mubah/Makruh tanzihi/Makruh tahrimi?) If it is disliked or impermissible to eat with two fingers, would this apply also to things commonly eaten with two fingers such as crisps, chips, dates, etc.?

A: As a routine, 3 fingers should be used. However, the 4th or 5th finger can be used if there is a need. If there is more ease in eating with 2 fingers then the food can be eaten in that way.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
