Is sexual relations necessary for halaala to be valid?

Q: In halaala, is intercourse a must to do or just nikaah and privacy without intercourse will do? My in-laws forced me for triple talaaq using their power and threats, otherwise me and my wife love each other dearly.

Bismillaah

A: Consummating the nikah is necessary for halaala to be valid.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
