Claiming medication from medical aid which amounts to less than the monthly installment

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My family has a normal medical aid policy for me and other family members. Chronic medication is claimed. The amount that is paid to the medical aid each month is far more than the value of the medication. Is it permissible for me to take the medication? Is the medication haraam?

Bismillaah

A: All types of insurance are haraam on account of the elements of gambling and interest. If the medication is equal to or less than the contributions then it is permissible to use the medication.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
