Counting Haidh After Prolonged Bleeding Postpartum

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I gave birth on 15 May 2016. I had a ghusal on the expiry of nifaas which was the 24th June 2016. However I still continued to bleed till now. In a week I will stop bleeding for 2/3 days then it would resume. In this scenario do I count my Haidh and if so how do I go about doing it?

Bismillaah

A: How many days of nifaas have passed? Did the complete 40 days pass? Similarly explain to us if this is the first nifaas you are experiencing or you had experienced nifaas before? If so, how many days was your previous nifaas?

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: I bled for the full nifaas period ie.40 days. Jee this was my first nifaas I experienced. From the end of my nifaas till today is 51 days.

Bismillaah

A: Your nifaas was forty days and the bleeding experienced thereafter is regarded as istihaaza. Haidh cannot be experienced before the completion of 15 days from the termination of the nifaas.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
