Have I committed a sin by saying I will divorce my wife while alone in my room?

Assallam-o-allekum; Respected Mufti Sahib; Q: Due to some anger or mental upset I said /Whisper my self that I will Divorce, that time I was alone in my room no one along with me. After that I thought what I said then I called my Wife by telephone and discussed with her that I utter these words that ” I will divorce her”.So she replied that nothing is serious but take care next time.So please mufti sahib do explain this condition. As I am mentally upset now a days. Thanks Wasallam.

Answer

(Fatwa: 2229/1503/H=1431)

No talaq took place with the sentence “I will divorce”. However, avoid uttering such sentences in future, lest you utter any words that may cause talaq to take place.
