Chatting During Engagement: Permissible or Not?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My question is that if someone is getting engaged and he she want to chat, is it permissible for the both and if not then is their any other way?

Bismillaah

A: All premarital relationships are haraam and impermissible. An engagement is not a nikaah. As long as the nikaah is not performed, the boy and girl are non-mahrams to each other and hence their communicating with each other is not permissible

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
