Question:
Why did Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) ask for a period of 30 Years of Khilaafah after his death? what is the significance of the YEARS s 30 YEARS?
When the prophet was asked about the eventuality of Islamic events after his death, he has been quoted as saying that after his death and for 30 years total, there will be KHILAAFAH after which there will be Mulookiyat? what is the significance of this period? I MEAN WHY 30 YEARS?
Answer:
Nabi (S.A.W.) spoke of many incidents during his life, which were to occur after his demise. Many of those incidents have already occurred while many more are still to come. Nabi (S.A.W.) shed a great amount of light on the topic of Khilaafah which would take place after his demise. With regards to this, he (S.A.W.) was informed by Allah that thirty years of leadership will follow on the trend of Khilaafah which will be followed by the system of Mulookiyat. This was not due to a Du’aa made by Nabi (S.A.W.) or his wish; rather it was the decree of Allah, The All Wise. It is the miracle of our beloved Nabi, that whenever he spoke of a certain incident it occurred just as prophesized by him. We are not aware of the significance of 30 years of Khilaafah.
