What makes the meat of hunted animals Halal or haram according to Islamic law?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Jamia Binoria
For instance, someone is hunting with a gun. When he fires he recites Takbeer. But when he reaches to the animal he has hunted, it has already stopped breathing. In this situation, is the meat of this animal Halal? Please inform us with regards the situations in which the meat of the hunted animal is Halal.

الجواب حامدا و مصلیا

If an animal was hunted with a gun and it was not slaughtered, then it is not permissible and Haram to eat its meat. However, if one shoots after reciting “بسم اللہ”, and the hunted animal dies from this shot, then this is classified as “ذبح اضطراری”, and it is permissible and Halal to eat its meat.
