Seeking forgiveness for one’s self and the believers daily

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

What is the status of the following narration:

عن ام سلمة رضي الله عنه قالت قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم من قال كل يوم اللهم اغفر لي وللمؤمنين والمؤمنات الحق به من كل مؤمن حسنة

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration.

Sayyidah Ummu Salamah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever says the following daily will receive the reward of one good deed for every believer:

اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

Allahummaghfir li wa lil mu-minina wal mu-minati.”

Translation: O Allah! Forgive me and the believing men and believing women.

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 877, volume: 23)

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) declared a narrator weak. The chain also consists of another narrator who has been declared weak by some Muhaddithun and very weak according to others.

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10 pg. 210, Lisanul Mizan, vol. 7 pg. 139-140, number: 6791)

However, the Hadith is corroborated and suitable to quote. See here

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
