Reciting the shahadah thrice after wudu

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Can you please confirm whether this Hadith narrated by Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) is authentic or not and if the text is correct?

Answer

Imams Ibn Majah and Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The Arabic text as you have cited is correct.

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever makes wudu properly and then recites the following thrice, the eight doors of Jannah will be opened for him and he may enter from whichever one he wishes:

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 469, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 265)

‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared a narrator weak in this chain.

(Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 168)

However, Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) (Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 234). This version does not specify reciting this du’a thrice. See here

Therefore, reciting this du’a once only, will also be sufficient to yield the mentioned reward.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
