What is the reference and grading of this narration?

سمعت الحسن يقول: {العابدون} [التوبة: 112] قال: الصلاة يعني: طولها

 

Answer

Imam ‘Abdur Rahman ibn Abi Hatim Ar Razi (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement of Hasan Al Basri (rahimahullah). The chain is acceptable and could be declared sound.

Hasan Al Basri (rahimahullah) explained the meaning of the word ‘العابدون’ in Verse 112 of Surah Tawbah. He said, “[‘Worshippers’ in this Verse], refers to those who offer prolonged [rak’ahs] of Salah.”
