Allah Ta’ala glances upon the ummah on the first night of Ramadan

Question

I have come across this and it was quoted as a narration. Is this something found in Hadith?

“On the first night of Ramadan, Allah Ta’ala gazes upon all of humanity, His creation. If Allah Ta’ala gazes upon someone, He will never distance that person from His presence nor allow them to become lost in this life.”

Answer

I have not come across these exact words in a Hadith.

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded the following narration:

Sayyiduna Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “My ummah have been granted five favours in Ramadan that no Nabi prior to me was given; The first being on the first night of Ramadan, Allah ‘Azza Wa Jalla looks toward them [my ummah] and Allah will never punish those whom he casts his glance upon…”

(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 3331, Fadailul Awqat, Hadith: 36)

The Hadith is weak. However, it may be quoted for such topics as is the rule with Hadiths of this nature.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
