The highest stage of Jannah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I heard Jannatul Firdaws is the highest level of Jannah, also within Jannatul Firdaus there is a highest level called Firdawsul A’la, is that correct?

Answer

The authentic Hadiths cite the highest stage to be ‘Al-Firdaws’ which is also referred to as ‘Jannatul Firdaws’.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2790. Also see Al-Budurus Safirah, pg.496)

I have not seen reference to what you heard as the highest stage within Firdaws, called A’la.

This seems to be a misunderstanding of the following Hadith:

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said to the mother of Sayyiduna Harithah (radiyallahu’anhu) -who was martyred in the battle of Badr-

‘O Mother Mother of Harithah! Indeed there are many gardens [in Jannah], and your son as achieved Firdaws, [which is] the highest.’

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2809)

The words used here are: ‘Firdawsul A’la’ which translate as: Firdaws [which is] the highest.

It seems like someone misread is as: Al-A’la in Firdaws. This is incorrect.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
