Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) preferred to travel on a Thursday

Is there any narration that Nabi (saw) would like to set out on a journey on Thursday?

Answer

Yes. Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded these narrations in his Sahih.

1) Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) would say “Rarely did Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) set out on a journey except on a Thursday.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2949)

2) Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) set out on a Thursday on the battle of Tabuk and he preferred to set out on a Thursday.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 2950)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states this does not mean that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) habitually set out on a Thursday as there are other Hadiths which state Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) set out on a Saturday as well.

(Fathul Bari, before Hadith: 2947)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
