Another recital at the time of iftar

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

How authentic is the following hadith?

وورد أنه – صلى الله عليه وسلم – كان يقول :  يا واسع الفضل اغفر لي

Answer

Translation:

‘And it has been reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) would recite [at the time of iftar]: Ya Wasi’al Fadli, ighfir li’

I havent seen this as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam).

However, Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has repeatedly referenced this recital for iftar to the Sahabi Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) with the words: ‘Ya Wasi’al Maghfirati ighfir li’

يَا وَاسِعَ المَغْفِرَةِ اِغْفِرْلِي

Refer: Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 3620, Fadailul Awqat, after Hadith: 143 and Ad-Da’watul Kabir, after Hadith: 450. Also see Lataiful Ma’arif, pg.378)

There is no harm in reciting this du’a of the Sahabi (radiyallahu’anhu).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
