Do not praise a man’s Islam until you find out his opinions

Kindly provide the reference for the following:

“Do no praise a mans Islam until you find out what his opinions are”

Answer

Imam Ibn Abi Hatim Ar Razi (rahimahullah) has cited this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) with a weak chain.

(Kitabul ‘Ilal; Refer: Tadribur Rawi, vol.1 pg. 355)

Many ‘Ulama who have authored books on the sciences of Hadith have cited this narration under the discussion of ‘Tadlis’ (a type of broken chain), as an example of ‘Tadlisut Taswiyah’, also known as the worst type of Tadlis.

Hadiths of this nature are considered weak.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
