Is this Hadith reliable?

Answer

Imams Nasai, Ibn Hibban and Hakim (rahimahumullah) have recorded this Hadith as part of a longer narration.

Imam Ibn Hibban and Imam Hakim (rahimahumallah) have authenticated the Hadith. ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) concurs.

(As Sunanul Kubra of Imam Nasai, Hadith: 11785, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 685, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4 pg. 327)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “O Abu Dharr, Do you regard excess wealth to be richness?’ I said, ‘Yes’, to which he replied, ‘And you regard less wealth to be poverty?’ I said ‘Yes, O Rasulullah!’ He said, ‘That is not the case. [True] wealth is contentment of the heart and [true] poverty is poverty of the heart.’”
