The reward for asking forgiveness on behalf of all muslims

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Please verify if this is authentic:

If a person asks for forgiveness for the ummat, like if he says: Allahummaghfirli walil mu’minena wal mu’minat , twenty seven (27) times, then his du’a is readily accepted

Answer

Sayyiduna Abu Darda (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

Whoever seeks forgiveness on behalf of the believing males and females, twenty five (25) or twenty seven (27) times daily, will have his du’as accepted…”

(Al-Mu’jamul Kabir of Tabarani; see Majma’uz zawaid, vol.10 pg.210)

The chain for this Hadith is weak, but suitable for practice.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
