Is Cupping (hijamah) outdated?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

What is the status of cupping /hijamah in Islam? Is it a ‘forgotten’ Sunnah?

In which case, is it’s revival a commendable act worthy of great potential reward or would it now be seen as an outdated therapy that no longer applies given the advances of modern medicine?

Answer

Cupping (Hijamah) is indeed neglected in current times.

Our Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) practiced this on several occasions.
Those with influence in this field should definitely do what they can in reviving this sunnah method of treatment.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
