Always be content, you will be from among the most grateful of people to Allah

What is the reference for this narration and can it be quoted?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Be content and you will be the most grateful of people to Allah”

This narration is recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah, as part of a longer narration. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) offered five advices to Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The narration in question is one of them.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4217)

‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain sound (hasan).

(Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1432)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded a slightly different version. See here.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
