Providing for one’s divorced or widowed daughter

Is this Hadith authentic?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Shall I not tell you [one of the] greatest forms of charity? [It is to provide for your] daughter who comes back to you [due to divorce or her husband passing away] and you are her sole source of provision.”

Answer

Imams Ibn Majah and Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Suraqah ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3667, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 4 pg. 175. Also see: Al Adabul Mufrad, 80)

‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Ibn Majah reliable, however he states that there is an omission in the chain.

(Zawaid Ibn Majah, 1249)

The narration is suitable to quote.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
