Those who are always satiated in this world will be hungry in the Hereafter

Is this narration authentic?

إن أهل الشبع في الدنيا هم أهل الجوع في الآخرة غدا

Answer

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded these words on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain sound (hasan).

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 11693, Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 137. See another version of the Hadith here)

Translation

Those who are [always] satiated in this world, will be hungry in the Hereafter.

The commentators explain, ‘A full belly makes a person tired. Those who are always satiated, tend to become lax in ‘ibadah. Those who eat less, are energetic which will lead to carrying out more ‘ibadah. This in turn, will be stored for them in the Hereafter.
