‘We awoke weak and sinful, consuming our sustenance awaiting our death’

كان الربيع إذا قيل له كيف أصبحت يقول أصبحنا ضعفاء مذنبين نأكل أرزاقنا وننتظر آجالنا

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Shaybah (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of Rabi’ ibn Khuthaym (rahimahullah).

(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 35986)

Translation

When Rabi’ ibn Khuthatym (rahimahullah) was asked, ‘How are you this morning?’ He would reply, ‘We awoke weak and sinful, consuming our sustenance awaiting our death.’

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
