Female Narrators

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Question

Is it true that there are no weak female narrators of Hadith?

Answer

‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) – an unmatched master in his knowledge of Hadith narrators- writes:

‘I am unaware of any female narrator who has been suspected of lying in Hadith (uttuhimat) or who was abandoned (turikat).’

(Mizanul I’tidal. vol.4 pg.604)

This statement should be understood in the following light:

1. Generally the female narrators are unknown.

2. Those that are known, were not declared extremely weak. Some are reliable, while if there were any weak ones among them, they would not be extremely weak.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
