A du’a asking Allah to purify one’s soul

Please provide the reference for this du’a

“O Allah grant my soul it’s piety and purify it, You are the best to purify it, You are it’s Guardian and Master”

Answer

This is part of a lengthier du’a which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would make recorded by Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) on the authority of Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Arqam (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2722)

The Arabic text of the du’a in question:

اللهم آت نفسي تقواها وزكها أنت خير من زكاها أنت وليها ومولاها

Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha wa zakkiha anta khayru man zakkaha anta waliyyuha wa maulaha

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
