Hadiths on Taqdir

Please mention some Hadiths on Taqdir [destiny/fate].

Answer

Taqdir is an integral part of Iman. Taqdir basically refers to the Absolute knowledge of Allah Ta’ala of everything even before its existence.

Hereunder are some narrations on Taqdir:

1) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibnul ‘As says, I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say:

“Allah has ordained [the destiny] of the creation fifty thousand years before he created the skies and the earth”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2653)

2) Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There is none of you, nor any created soul, who does not have his place written for him in Jannah or Jahannam and whether he will be wretched or fortunate.” A man said, ‘ O Rasulullah, should we then rely on what is written for us and abandon carrying out good deeds and whomsoever is from the fortunate ones will get the actions of the fortunate and whomsoever is from the wretched will get the actions of the wretched? Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: [No, carry out good actions], As for the fortunate ones, good deeds will be made easy for them to carry out and as for the wretched ones, evil actions will be made easy for them”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1362 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2647)

3) Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Everything is pre-ordained, even incapability and intelligence”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2655)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
