A narration stating that a hypocrite will be unable to memorise certain Surahs

Is it correct that only a hypocrite will be unable to memorise Surahs Hud, Yasin and Dukhan?

Answer

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded a Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) which states:

“A hypocrite will be unable to memorise Surahs Hud, Bara-ah, Yasin, Dukhan and ‘Amma Yatasa-alun”

However, the chain consists of an extremely weak narrator. Some Muhaddithun have declared him a liar. ‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has cited this Hadith in his book on fabricated Hadiths.

(Dhaylul La-Alil Masnu’ah, vol. 1 pg. 123, Hadith: 134, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 1 pg. 299. Also see: Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 7 pg. 157)

The Hadith should not be quoted.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
