When do I stop being a musafir (traveler)?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.ca

Answer:

Bismillahi Ta’ala

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabrakatuh,

In principle there are two aspects that can terminate one’s status as a “traveler”.

a. If a traveler on a journey changes his intention to stay at a certain place for more than 15 days, then his status will change from “traveler” to a “resident” and he will have to complete his prayer without shortening (qasr).

b. Similarly when the traveler returns to his city, and enters the populated part of the city, he will no longer be classified as a traveler, rather a resident. In our terms, once you reach the outskirts of a city and reach those populated areas where generally reasonable dwellings start to appear, then you would have entered the city.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
