Circumcision For Adult Men

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question: Asalaamu Alaaikum,

My husband is not circumcised and he wanted to get it done. Does Islamic law say anything about older men getting that done? Or can he just feed people? Thank you for your reply.

Salams.

Answer: Wa Alaikum As Salaam,

In Islam, both young and old can be circumcised. If one is old or an adult, and he is not circumcised, then he will not be guilty of committing a sin in Islam. It is known to be a Sunnah act for men, and through circumcision one is able to have proper Tahara/purification. The Prophet (s.a.w) has strongly encouraged the Males to be circumcised.

If one is not circumcised, then he must ensure that after urinating or having relations with his wife, the genital organ is washed properly so that no impurity remains under the foreskin.

In the case where one has not been circumcised, there is no requirement for him to feed people or give charity etc.

And Allah Knows Best.
