Q: What is the position of the Taweez (Ruqya) in the light of the Quran and Hadith?

A:

Taweez (Ruqya) is an established form of treatment in the Sharia. There are many Ahaadith in which Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has not only allowed but also advised the Sahaaba-e-Kiraam Radiyallahu Anhum to adopt the Ruqya, provided that there are no words of Shirk used. Similarly it should only be considered as a form of treatment. If the Ruqya is considered to be the one that is giving the cure, then it would not be permissible to use it.
