Working as a Freelancer in Helping University Students in Their Homework Assignments and Projects

Question:

I am working as a freelancer and sometimes I help the students studying in the universities to make their homework assignments and projects and in return, they pay me for the service and effort based on my skills. Some students ask me about the steps of the homework and projects and its working to understand it completely and some other students just submit the work directly to their teacher and university without understanding. So I wanted to ask that the earning through this service is Halal or Haram. I will be really thankful to you for your guidance. May ALLAH bless you with the greatest reward.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If you are a teacher or tutor who simply teaches, trains, or supports students with how to improve, or you help with editing, their assignments, essays, or projects then this will be permissible in general.

However, if you know for sure that the student is cheating his university by getting you to write his essays or projects completely for him and then he submits it claiming that it is his work then that would be supporting someone in deception and fraud which is not permissible in Islam. As Allah subhana wa ta’ala says {…Cooperate with one another in goodness and righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression…) Quran 5:2

Only Allah knows best
