Why Is Blowing Something Cold Like Hot Tea Before Drinking Considered Haram in Islam?

Answered by: Maulana Muhammad Asadullah Anwar Adam

Question:

Why is blowing something cold like hot tea before drinking considered haram in Islam?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Breathing into a drink is disliked because the Messenger of Allah (SAW) forbade blowing into a vessel.[1]

The wisdom behind it is that breathing into the vessel is off-putting to the one who is going to drink from it after him [1]. Some diseases from the stomach, lungs or mouth may be expelled with the breath and stick to the vessel.
