Question:

Assalamualakyum respected mufti is it permissible to wear clothes made of pork dog is it allowed to sell clothes or articles made of dog or pork is it allowed to do the prayer with clothes made of dog or pork?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Shoes, purses and clothes which are made of pig’s skin are impure and their impurity is established from the Quran.

Allah says in Quran: –

Say: “I find not in the message received by me by inspiration any (meat) forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it unless it is dead meat, or blood poured forth, or the flesh of swine,- for it is impure.

Sura An’am Verse 145

So, the swine is impure according to the verse of the Quran and its impurity cannot be cleaned even by tanning.

Animals and beasts of prey, such as panthers, foxes and dogs or birds, e.g., eagles and falcons, only the skins of these animals will be made pure for clothing items if they are slaughtered according to in Islamic way, but their meat will remain impure.[i]

In short, it is not permissible to wear clothes made of pigs as the Shariah has considered it essentially impure [najis al-‘ayn] and cannot be purified in any way but other animals will be permissible if we follow the above rule.

Only Allah knows best.
