Praying salah on the bare ground

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

If I am travelling, and I have not got a prayer mat, can I pray on the bare ground?  If the ground is dry and I cannot see any visible impurities, can I use the ground?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Yes, it will be permissible for you to offer your salah on that piece of land.

Saaiduna Jabir Radiallahu Anhu reports that the Prophet of Allah Sallalahu Alahi Wasalam said: “I have been granted five things which were not granted to any one before me: and for me the earth has been made a mosque and a means of purification; therefore, if prayer overtakes any person of my community, he should say his prayers (wherever he is)…” (Sahih Bukhari p.62 v.1)
