Non-Arabic dua in Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Non-Arabic dua in Salah

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

The differences of opinions rearding whether doing dua in the Arabic language or in any other language stems from the differences in the issue of ”Qira’ah” on which Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) returned to the view of Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad (RA) i.e. that it is not allowed when one able is in Arabic, but allowed when one is not able in Arabic. (Raddul Muhtar p.183 v.2)

Allahmah Ibn Abideen Shami (RA) has said that it is considered Makruh Tahrimi to do dua in languages besides Arabic whether one is able in Arabic or not.  (Raddul Muhtar p.234 v.2)

The aforementioned ruling applies for all types of prayers.
