Divine Revelation

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Divine Revelation

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

Allah (SWA) has sent man into this world as a matter of test and in return for this the whole universe has been placed at service. For this reason man must do the following things:

  1. He should make the best use of this world
  2. Whilst using this world to his advantage, he should keep the injunctions of Allah (SWA) in sight

For these two functions man needs knowledge and Allah (SWA) has created three things through which he could continue receiving knowledge.  These are:

  1. Mans’ senses
  2. The reason (Qiyaas)
  3. The Wahy

Consequently man finds out many things through his senses, many others through reason and the knowledge of things he cannot get through these two sources are bestowed upon him through Wahy (divine revelation).  For example, there are certain things which cannot be understood through senses and reason.  That is when Wahy comes in use, giving man the answers to the questions.

The method used by Allah (SWA) is that he will choose one of His servants, ordaining him as His messenger and to him He reveals His word.  His word is Wahy.
