Remnant of Food in the Mouth During Salah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question

Hazrat, during Tarawih salah, I had a remnant of food stuck in my morsel tooth. I only realised this whilst I was in the state of qiyam, I picked it with my tongue and swallowed it. I am uncertain if it was less than the size of a chickpea.

Was the salah valid?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Any food swallowed from in between the teeth the size of a chickpea or larger will invalidate the salah.

Likewise any food that is smaller than the size of a chickpea will not invalidate the salah.

Conclusion: as you are certain that the size of the food was less than the size of a chickpea the salah will be valid Inshallah.[1]
