Question

Will Qurbaani be valid in the following instances: –

  1. If the animal is born without a tail.
  2. If it is born with a tail, but the tail is later cut off.

iii. To what extent will the cutting of the tail be tolerated?

  1. If the cutting of the tail is due to health reasons (and it is cut off more than the acceptable amount), will the Qurbaani be valid?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It will not be valid if the animal is born without a tail. If the majority of the tail is cut, then it will not be valid also. If it is due to health reasons, then it is permissible. Radd al-Muhtar, vol. 6, pg. 323.
