Question

Asalamualaikum. I want to know if it is allowed to attend a Shukran party thrown by the parents of a girl who has recovered from a dangerous disease. Are Shukran (giving thanks to ALLAH) parties permissible?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

Inviting guests for a meal is an act of virtue. And to accept the invitation is rewarding also. This is as long as there is nothing unlawful involved, ie music, dancing, free mixing between the two genders, etc.

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “(All of you) worship Ar-Rahman, feed others, spread the (greeting of) Salam, then you will enter Paradise in security.” (Jami Tirmidhi, Chapter on Food, Hadith 1855).

Ibn ‘Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying: When anyone of you is invited to a feast, he should accept. ‘Ubaidallah took this feast to be a wedding feast.
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1429)

To invite others out of happiness due to freedom from a calamity as an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT would be allowed as long as no unlawful acts are involved as stated above.

Only Allah knows best.
