Question

A teacher was teaching 8 lessons of the week to 2 different classes (4 lessons per class) and would receive the pay for 8 lessons. However, due to a timetable clash, he is required to merge both classes in a single lesson. So is he still entitled to receive the pay for teaching 8 lessons or 7?

Answer:

Taking into consideration that the timetable clash is only a temporary event and not a permanent constant clash and that the teacher was not informed of the joining of two classes at the time of agreeing to teach all 8 lessons, we are certain that he deserves to be paid for all 8 sessions.

The reason for this ruling is the Shari’ Usul which states: “The ruling for temporary matters is (the treatment of) absence” [1]
