Question

Is clapping hands permissible in Islam?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Allah (SWA) in the Holy Qur’an describes the crime of the Pagans of Makkah that “their prayer near the House was not more than whistling and clapping. (Surah Anfaal v.35)

It is disliked to clap the hands in a way where the palm of one hand is hitting the other. (Durre Mandhuud p.347 v.2)

We should encourage children and adults to say Subhan Allah or Allahu Akbar in good and joyous occasions rather than clapping the hands.

Only Allah Knows Best
