Question

Should braces be removed from a dead person’s teeth before burying him?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Imam Quduri explains: “Neither the hair of the deceased nor his beard is combed. Neither his nails are trimmed nor his hair.”[1] Therefore, besides removing clothes, there is no need to remove something that is stuck to the body and significantly difficult to remove. Braces fall in this category since they are quite difficult to remove and it would be burdensome to have an orthodontist remove the braces. Anything that can be removed with ease should be removed, such as a retainer or dentures.
