Question

Salam are we allowed to feed cats haram meat?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In The Name Of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most-Merciful

Answer:

Those things which are not permissible for us to eat, it is permissible to utilise them by feeding them to animals.[1] So, in this regard, it is allowed to feed haram meat to cats.

However, we know that in order to feed cats, it requires purchasing the tinned meat from the shops in the first place. This in itself is not permitted.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:

“Allah and His Apostle made illegal the trade of alcohol, dead animals, pigs and idols.”[2]

Therefore, it will not be permitted for you to purchase haram meat and feed it to your cat. You can feed your cat the various halal options available in the shops, as well as sharing some of your leftover halal meat.
