Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Hazrat ji. I hope you’re fine.

My question is it permissible to carry the Quran in a backpack for travel (I will travel 2 days by flight) the back will be behind me.

Please help me I will travel soon.

It is understandable that travelling can be difficult, and it is generally hard for someone to carry the Qur’an in their hands while walking from gate to gate and in and out of the plane. This is especially difficult when most likely they will have other luggage that they will have to carry and documents that they will have to handle. This may force them to swing the Quran up and down and place it in different places throughout their travel, which is in a way more disrespectful to the Quran than if one were to place it nicely in their backpack.

Moreover, the actions that we do are judged based on our intentions. If someone’s intention is not to disrespect the Qur’an but simply because the backpack is the only convenient place they can place it in, then it will be permissible for them to place it in their backpack.[1]
