Question:
What is the minimum quantity of Mehar in gram for Muslim marriage?
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The minimum Maher is ten dirhams.[1] One dirham is between 2.97 – 3.1 grams of silver ( The difference is based on various calculations of scholars, however, this difference is minimum )
This would mean the minimum Mahar would be about 30 grams of silver ( strictly speaking anything between 29.7 – 31 grams)
The price of a silver per gram has been between 40p – 43p over the last six weeks.
So if we were to take into consideration all the mini differences then the minimum Mahar would be between the following figures :
£ 11.88 ( if we based it on the minimum calculation )
£ 13.33 ( if we based it on the maximum calculation )
In summary, the Minimum Maher is about £12 or £13 currently.
The Mahar for the wives and daughters of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) was 500 dirhams.
This would mean the current value of the Sunnah Mahar would be between £ 594 – £666.50
Only Allah Knows best.
