Cosmetic Brands Paying Someone to do a Video

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Answered by: Maulana Tahsin Alam

Question

If a cosmetic brand hires me to demonstrate using their products for a short video and pays me for this promotional content that will then be used in their campaigns, is this lawful? If I demonstrate their products on a model instead of myself is it permissible?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

It will be permissible as long as you are not required to expose your ʿawrah, nor promote products that are deemed to be arām in the Sharīʿah. Similar would be the case if you were to use a model instead of yourself.
