Question:

Is reading novels, fiction and storybooks haram in Islam?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

If the content and material of the books being read are un-Islamic and promote themes that are distant from the religion then they should not be read. However, if there are books which help in gaining knowledge-whatever type it may be-and provide some sort of practical benefit then those should be read.

Only Allah knows best
