Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

If someone prays zuhr on Jumah then attends Jumah, does the Jumah take place of Fardh or zuhr?

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Assalamualaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh

Jumuah is a very sacred prayer and obligatory upon every capable male. Allah says in the Quran hasten to the remembrance of Allah and forgo business. It is a direct command from Allah to join the Jumuah prayer. If such an individual upon whom Jumuah was obligatory had prayed Zhur at home then prayed Jumuah, his Jumuah would be valid but however, this would be extremely disliked, since Zhur Prayer is only valid in the case Jumuah is not possible on Friday.

It is not appropriate to pray both Jumuah and Zhur, rather Jumuah is the command required and Zhur is only prayed as a substitute for Jummah in the case of inability.
