Question:

We know that sitting down when eating, or drinking is a Sunnah, but if one chooses not to on occasions just because they prefer not to, will such a person be sinful?

Answer

Regarding your question, Ibn Abidin mentioned that there are different hadiths, some interdicting eating and drinking while standing and others allowing it. (Radd al Muhtar).

After much discussion, Ibn Abidin concluded that “it is disliked for one to eat and drink on the streets. It is also disliked for one to eat and drink while standing and walking, while it is not wrong to drink standing (this expression indicated that it is better not to do so).

Only Allah knows best.
